Information Aesthetics

Passing “Place for Games”. Interactive Installation.
Ernest Morial Convention Center, New Orleans. August 6, 2009

Virtual Kizhi cultural heritage project was a part of the first new Information Aesthetics program introduced at the SIGGRAPH 2009. Russia’s Kizhi Island is home to an outdoor museum of fascinating edifices of northern wooden architecture protected by World Heritage List of UNESCO. A remote location, travel distance, limited building access due to restoration efforts make the Kizhi site difficult to visit.

This project presents a detailed reconstruction of Kizhi, developed using the latest concepts in real-time graphics. The visualization recreates virtual environment of the ensemble and the island landscape in the interactive high-resolution application controlled by the user.
